Aboard for this first passage: Tobi, and his longtime friends Bernhard and Martin. Departed Sant Carles Marina for Andratx, an overnight passage of roughly 1.7 days covering 120 nautical miles at 3.0 knots average. Wind 3–19 kn from the ENE, gusting to 25 kn. It backed from S to E. Seas up to 1.8m. Current up to 0.5 kn setting SW. This was the season’s first passage after an extensive refit break in the boatyard at Sant Carles Marina: a solar arch with 3×240 Wp of panels feeding the 48V main battery bank, finishing off the galley rebuild after going fully electric with an induction stovetop and a combined microwave/grill/oven, a full sandblast and recoat of the underwater hull (five coats of International Interprotect primer, three coats of Cruiser 250 antifouling), and a last-minute mast repair as the finishing touch. The passage itself brought considerably worse conditions than forecast (10 kn gusting to 15 kn and waves to 1m predicted, versus 20 kn gusting to 25 kn and waves to 2m actually experienced), including St. Elmo’s fire on the VHF antenna from late afternoon on (static buzzing on the radio, discharge even off the unplugged antenna cable), with a thunderstorm coming up on the port stern quarter four to five hours later, one that hadn’t been in the forecast at all, and two of the three aboard got seasick. Arrived in Andratx early in the morning and spent a day resting up.
