There was a thunderstorm over the mainland that day, well out of reach of the anchorage. The weather had calmed down a lot, so we moved into the crater bay itself and called the park rangers on VHF to ask for a guided tour: fascinating stories about the history, geography, and biology of the islands. The crater turned out to be inhabited after all: two or three rangers and biologists live there, doubling as the local tour guides.
